Celebrating all of life's meaningful events, my aim is to help you put your love into words and to guide you towards, and through, the ceremony you really want. Uniqueness and memorability can be achieved in so many different ways and I see the key to a successful outcome as being the creation and delivery of something beautiful, meaningful and memorable.
This applies equally to:
a naming or adoption ceremony, where we welcome a new addition to the family and circle of friends;
a wedding or civil partnership ceremony, where we lay a solid foundation for a shared future;
a renewal of vows ceremony, where we can tell everybody that we'd do it all over again in a heartbeat;
a funeral or a memorial service for a loved one, where we can bring comfort and even some joy.
I'm a really good listener and this is important because I want to hear your story, in your own words, so I can help you tell it and thereby create a ceremony that is unique to you, that reflects your own personalities, your hopes and your dreams. None of this is about me, it is all about you.
I may not be quite as quirky as some celebrants, but I do have a well-developed sense of humour, a degree of gravitas, a wide experience of life and a quiet confidence that others say is calming and reassuring. I have done lots of writing and lots of public speaking.
I trained with, and am a member of, The Fellowship of Professional Celebrants and I am bound by their code of conduct.
I don't come from the standpoint of any doctrinal belief or unbelief. As a professional celebrant, my own beliefs and values are not relevant. What’s really important is that I will help you to have the celebration of your own choosing. I am happy to incorporate any religious references or spiritual beliefs into any ceremony, if you wish.
I like to begin with a face-to-face meeting, whenever possible, so we can get to know each other, so I can gain a real understanding of your wishes and so you can decide if I am the celebrant for you. This meeting takes place without any charge or obligation. Once I have a clear understanding of what is required, I will quote a fixed fee that will include everything, including a rehearsal if desirable, so there will be no nasty surprises. Only after you decide I am 'the one', does a deposit become payable. I then write and submit a first draft of what I propose, based on what I have learned during our meeting. Revisions can be made as many times as necessary, at no additional cost, until we have it just right.
The style of the ceremonies I conduct come from the people who hire me. Your wish, as they say, is my command! I know it works best, however, when you open up to me so that what I create reflects you. I have enormous resources from which we can draw - poetry, prose, music - and props of every type. So if you want a sand ceremony, broomstick jumping, hand fasting or any other type of ritual to be incorporated, nothing is a problem. Unless you want to get married at the top of a high tower or on a cliff edge or somewhere equally terrifying, because I don't do heights! That's pretty much my only limitation.
Why Choose Howard
People choose me to lead their ceremonies if they want to feel safe and assured that I am going to remain calm, come what may. I am easy to work with, unafraid to give guidance but equally happy to go with the flow.
